Project Management
Remediation of Gasworks „Gaisburg“
Remedial investigation, planning and execution of soil and groundwater remediation in the mineral springs zone Stuttgart Bad Cannstatt.
For nearly hundred years (1875 bis 1974) the gasworks Stuttgart Ost, located in the urban district of Gaisburg, produced gas from coal tar, heavy fuel and light mineral oil products. Significant underground contaminations result primarily from tar pits as well as leakages of former production plants and drains. A high contamination risk for deeper aquifers results from pools of dense non-aqueous phase liquids on the quaternary aquifer basis.
The former gas plant is located in the core zone of a medicinal water protection area. Due to this fact in combination with very complex geological conditions Gaswerk Gaisburg ist one of the most urgent hazardous sites in Baden Württemberg. Remediation planning and implementation are currently in process, requiring a high degree of accuracy. An efficient elimination of contamination source zones is to be done on the one hand, on the other hand a further contaminant transport downgradient with groundwater flow als well as migration into deeper groundwater storeys should be prevented.
On behalf of ENBW AG and LHS Stuttgart we are project steerer for all phases of remediation planning and implementation (2008 to 2013). Attending all necessary steps we are first contact persons for all project participants. Our main tasks are
- technical consultancy
- moderation of project meetings
- recommendation of appropriate providers for all necessary services like remediation planning, groundwater modelling, groundwater monitoring, maintenance of piezometers, etc..
- preparation and supervision of tendering procedures
- cost control
- application for funds
- public relation activities
